Center for Movement is owned and actively managed by Elle Jardim and Donna Singer, both of whom trained under the tutelage of the legendary master trainer Romana Kryzanowska.
It is upon this strong foundation that the structure of our centers has been built. Our mission at CFM is to create a warm, inviting atmosphere with a no-nonsense approach to Authentic Pilates and Gyrotonic training.
Our first studio was established in Scarsdale in 1998, and still today remains one of the preeminent Pilates & Gyrotonic Studios in Westchester County with a clientele of loyal devotees since our inception, over 10 years strong.
Continuing to building on our success and expertise, in 2001 we opened our first Manhattan location at 1018 Lexington Avenue.
Private and semiprivate sessions are offered at this location, led by our elite team of instructors.
Then, in late 2007, Center for Movement branched out again, opening the doors to a location on Second Avenue. As the newest of our offerings, it's a shining example of the owners' forward-thinking outlook.
Making the effective and visible results of Reformer and Tower Mat classes available in group settings, CFM is bringing a gift to Manhattan's Upper East Side.
Center for Movement also offers an intense Comprehensive Pilates Certification program, under the direction of owners Elle and Donna. It's become one of the more distinguished programs in the industry, recognized by the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA).
Pilates (puh-LAH-teez):
It's a total body exercise system which does it all: improves strength, flexibility, and posture without building bulk. Exercises are done with an emphasis on the abdominal area, breathing and heightened body-mind awareness, resulting in a flatter tummy and sculpted body. Due to the efficiency of all of the movements, fewer repetitions are required, resulting in an engaging and invigorating workout. Exercise intelligently, the way founder Joseph Pilates intended.
Gyrotonic (ji-ro-TON-ik):
The Gyrotonic Expansion System is a groundbreaking exercise method created by Juliu Horvath. This method is designed to increase range of motion, agility and strength. The circular motions on the specialized equipment promote multiple joint articulation and help ease muscle tension. The fluid movements along with energized breathing patterns have the same benefits as an aerobic workout and leave you feeling as if you've just had a massage.
